ClassDojo, the link between teachers, parents, and students
Teaching is one of the most time consuming and isolating professions in the world. As much as teachers would enjoy constant interaction with their peers, they are overwhelmed with work around the clock. From the five to eight hours of teaching to spending the rest of their day preparing for classes and going through assignments, teachers do not have any room for interaction in their schedule.
Social media has always been a companion for these professionals helping them have access to the outside world without physically having to make a move. ClassDojo is a communication app that links teachers, parents, and students from different parts of the society without having to conduct meetings.
It was developed in 2011 as a result of the collaboration between Liam Don and Sam Chaudhary. How the app operates is in such a way that there are three portfolios to be created, one for the parent, the students and the teachers.
The parents’ portfolio allows them to get engaged with the classroom affairs of their children, watch their latest lessons while at the same time sending and receiving both audio and video messages as well as texts from their children and the teachers.
The students, on the other hand, can showcase and share what they have learned through videos and photos. These have been made accessible to the parents and teachers.
Finally, the teachers’ portfolio can be utilized to encourage students in their learning process and communicate with their parents and also share experiences and exchange ideas with other teachers who are also using the app from different parts of the state.
Teachers can also use the features of the app to send assignments to their students, answer questions from them and also divide them into discussion groups when the need arises.
Since its introduction, ClassDojo has been adopted by nearly all K-8 schools in the United States, and statistics indicate that soon it will cross borders to several other nations across the globe. ClassDojo is not just a tool for communication but also one for empowerment, creativity, innovation, and connection.
